This is a Greek border theme
page. I used the ancient Greek god Poseidon as the focus
because of my fascination with him since a child. Poseidon,
as the god of the seas, held great power and significance for the
ancient Greeks. He was a very popular god, and is
consequently the subject of many myths. His weapon is a
trident, which can shake the earth, and shatter any object.
He is second only to Zeus in power amongst the gods.
Above you see a sample title graphic
with Poseidon, in the .zip file you will find this graphic for you to
insert a web page title on. If you don't have a graphic
program capable of doing that,
e-mail me and I will do it for you as
time allows. Below you will find the graphic wave and dolphin
divider and shell bullet designed for this page. The font
used on the e-mail button (there is a blank for you to insert the links you
need) and suggested for the Poseidon title graphic above is called
"Dolphin."
I have also included trident navigation graphics (you could place them
at the bottom of your pages if appropriate) that match this web set.

Poseidon controlled, from his
sea-domain, the devastating force of the earthquake. The
ability to summon earthquakes earned Poseidon the epithet of "Earth
Shaker." |
 |
The
sea gods Rodon in Illyrian mythology, Nethuns in Etruscan, and Neptune
in Roman mythology are sea gods similar to Poseidon. |
 |
Poseidon
was one of the caretakers of the Oracle at Delphi before Olympian
Apollo took it over. Xenophon's Anabasis describes a group
of Spartan soldiers singing to Poseidon a paean - a kind of hymn
normally sung for Apollo. |
 |
Sailors
prayed to Poseidon for a safe voyage, sometimes drowning horses as a
sacrifice. In his benign aspect, Poseidon created new islands
and offered calm seas. When offended or ignored, he struck
the ground with his trident and caused chaotic springs, earthquakes,
drownings and shipwrecks. |
